#44 – the Years are Zooming By

Fall is our favourite time of year, it is often sunny and mild, with warm breezes, most of the biting bugs are gone and the outdoor world is so colourful. We got engaged in the fall, we got married in the fall and 44 years later, we still enjoy the fall, as we remember our history together.

Sister L and brother L from New Brunswick always give thoughtful anniversary gifts. This year, they proposed a Zoom conversation celebration. Time and date, menu and beverages agreed upon, we eagerly awaited the day. Knowing how much thought they would put into this gift, we made sure to set the scene properly at our end, formal clothes (at least at Zoom height), a nice table setting and candles. Laughter and conversation flowed, along with the bubbles.

Distance and Covid circumstance make celebrating special occasions a bit more difficult, but we have only to try harder to overcome those difficulties to make the time special. That is the meaning of life.

FALLing in Love ©

From across the room, I met your gaze,

long golden hair shining in sun’s rays.

I wonder aloud “Now who is that”?

Walking by my desk, you stop to chat.

Weeks quickly flew by with work busy,

at Christmas party, you danced with me.

Gazing deep into your eyes so blue,

it was at that moment that I knew

that you were the only one for me.

Now to turn me and you into we.

After courtship, we were soon engaged,

one year later, our wedding was staged.

In mid September, I do’s were said

and mere moments later, we were wed.

Each year since in September weather

I’m so happy we are together.

Happy Anniversary to my Patty

Not much to tell. After working for 3 companies over 43+ years (38 years 7 months with my last company), I finally got that promotion I had waited my entire career for……retirement. I have been exploring this new career for the past 7+ years and while it is not always exciting, the chance to do what I want for myself and my family instead of what my company wants has been very fulfilling. Early on, there was a long list of projects in my “to-do” hopper and I attacked these projects with a vengeance for the first 9 months of retirement. Eventually, my brain told me that this was not what retirement was about, so it took me another 5 months before my industriousness again took over and I attacked another line of projects, this time somewhat shorter and less complicated, as well as many new projects related to the family weddings in 2016. After going hard for 6 weeks and 3 weddings, my body was telling me to relax, then the flu bug hit and as soon as that was done with me, my sciatic acted up. No rest for the wicked. In 2020 and 2021, the Covid 19 pandemic changed the whole retirement gig. I was lucky to not be still working, for sure. I enjoy photography, gardening, working with my hands, walking, cycling, skiing, travelling, reading and creating special photo and video productions obtained in my first pastime. I may never become wealthy in any of these pursuits, but I already feel I am rich in life experiences far beyond any expectation.

    1. Yes. The leaves are a problem for sure. You no sooner get them picked up than the wind blows another bunch down. Sigh. Oh well, I can soon change out my rake for a shovel. Yayyyy? Thanks for your congrats. Have a wonderful weekend. Allan

      1. Happy Friday! Glad you have been able to have some fun even despite these new covid regs that still screw the good people. Let’s all make the best of it 🙂

      2. Thanks. It is happy despite the Late responses from the United Clown Posse and the goings on from an ill advise election call. The new Covid regs, as usual are about 6 weeks too late and really throw a monkey wrench into our plans. Stay tuned for some posts down the road. 😀

      3. I’m just going to give you a 👍🙌 since I am not in a position to tear them a new one as much as I would like to! Looking forward to you saying it louder for the people in the back!

  1. Allan, this post put a broad smile onto my face. Congratulations! And well done to all of you for really making the effort and getting into the swing of things. As you’ve said before, life is for living and we need to embrace the important moments to the full. Love the old photos and your black hat!

    1. Glad to bring a smile Leighton. Often we spent our time thinking about what we can’t do instead of what we can. If it was worth the effort before Covid, it is certainly worth the effort during. Lots of smiles and laughs during our Zoom and some planning for a visit in, dare I say 2022?? Yeah, those old photos are killer. I look at them now and say “What the H— happened to us.” The answer comes back “Life”. I have earned all those wrinkles and bumps and I gave up moaning about lost hair a long time ago. The black hat was one my youngest son wore to his high school grad. I was going for the distinguished look. Cheers Leighton and thanks for the conversation. Allan
