Today was a big day. We were getting closer to the end of our road trip and B & K were gifting us a 4 night stay in an ocean front property on Vancouver Island. We were all excited, even Benji, the Wonder Dog who was joining the four of us for this part of the trip.

We were booked on the 11:00 AM ferry to Vancouver Island, so shortly before 9:00 AM, we rolled up to B & K’s building to pick them up. Benji was excited and could hardly contain himself. We drove to the Tsawwassen area and let Benji out for some exercise and well, you know. It did not take us long to figure out that he was now in charge.

I thought you said there would be a boat involved.
Tsawwassen scnery?

The stop was next to an ice arena and the rink scrapings had been dumped in the parking lot. We were curious as to how Benji would respond. In short, he did not like cold and white. He was a West Coast dog, after all.

Exercise over, we headed for the ferry (separate post).

On the Victoria side of the crossing, we picked up lunch for everyone and then stopped in at Fada’s condo for a visit. Benji was allowed to sit in the conservatory and we each took turns sitting with him, as we visited.

HEY! I thought you said it was time to leave.

Visit over, we said our goodbyes and drove on toward Sooke Ocean Point Resort in East Sooke, our home for the next few nights. (separate post).

OK. So this is a 2 bedroom unit. Where am I going to sleep?
A DRESSER! You put my bed in a Dresser! How embarrassing. But, boy, is this cozy. I think I can get over it.
Well, this is certainly cozy. Where did you find the extra bed?

Not much to tell. After working for 3 companies over 43+ years (38 years 7 months with my last company), I finally got that promotion I had waited my entire career for……retirement. I have been exploring this new career for the past 7+ years and while it is not always exciting, the chance to do what I want for myself and my family instead of what my company wants has been very fulfilling. Early on, there was a long list of projects in my “to-do” hopper and I attacked these projects with a vengeance for the first 9 months of retirement. Eventually, my brain told me that this was not what retirement was about, so it took me another 5 months before my industriousness again took over and I attacked another line of projects, this time somewhat shorter and less complicated, as well as many new projects related to the family weddings in 2016. After going hard for 6 weeks and 3 weddings, my body was telling me to relax, then the flu bug hit and as soon as that was done with me, my sciatic acted up. No rest for the wicked. In 2020 and 2021, the Covid 19 pandemic changed the whole retirement gig. I was lucky to not be still working, for sure. I enjoy photography, gardening, working with my hands, walking, cycling, skiing, travelling, reading and creating special photo and video productions obtained in my first pastime. I may never become wealthy in any of these pursuits, but I already feel I am rich in life experiences far beyond any expectation.
