All photos taken October 5, 2021 at Sooke Point Ocean Cottage Resort.
In recognition of all the driving we had to do to make the family gathering in Jasper possible, B & K treated us to a 4 night stay at Sooke Point Ocean Cottage Resort in East Sooke and right next to East Sooke Regional Park.
While not on the wide Pacific Ocean, it was on the Salish Sea, looking across to Washington state across from Port Angeles, providing many beautiful views.
As we drove closer, we began to glimpse the water and could see what a magnificent building site this was. This became even more obvious as we parked the car in our assigned spot and went to pick up the keys to our unit.
From the parking lot, the bungalows looked pretty nondescript. But, as we walked through the gateway, we could see some steps would be involved. Luggage transport would be fun.
We found our unit at the bottom of the stairs and opened the door….
….to an amazing view and well appointed apartment. It was like being at the bow of a ship, but with better facilities. We could live here comfortably for a few nights. Why had we failed to bring wine?
Sliding open the patio doors, we began to grasp the full scope of our view. WOW!

Not much to tell. After working for 3 companies over 43+ years (38 years 7 months with my last company), I finally got that promotion I had waited my entire career for……retirement.
I have been exploring this new career for the past 7+ years and while it is not always exciting, the chance to do what I want for myself and my family instead of what my company wants has been very fulfilling. Early on, there was a long list of projects in my “to-do” hopper and I attacked these projects with a vengeance for the first 9 months of retirement. Eventually, my brain told me that this was not what retirement was about, so it took me another 5 months before my industriousness again took over and I attacked another line of projects, this time somewhat shorter and less complicated, as well as many new projects related to the family weddings in 2016. After going hard for 6 weeks and 3 weddings, my body was telling me to relax, then the flu bug hit and as soon as that was done with me, my sciatic acted up. No rest for the wicked. In 2020 and 2021, the Covid 19 pandemic changed the whole retirement gig. I was lucky to not be still working, for sure.
I enjoy photography, gardening, working with my hands, walking, cycling, skiing, travelling, reading and creating special photo and video productions obtained in my first pastime. I may never become wealthy in any of these pursuits, but I already feel I am rich in life experiences far beyond any expectation.

This place had it all. While it is not really remote, it does take time to get there along the coast roads, but the views are worth the drive. Thanks for reading Lori. Allan

What an amazing place to stay! I once stayed somewhere on the California coast where you could watch for sea lions etc all the time. I spent as much time as humanly possible on the beach (when the tide was low)

It was even better than we had imagined and was a great base for our walks. As to the bath, Benji was happy to have it for his own personal use. 🐶🛁Thanks for reading. Allan

That’s my kind of treat! A nice way to express appreciation for someone. Wonderful views, and the cottage looks cozy and comfortable. Any whale or sea lion sightings?

It was above and beyond, but, that is our kids. We hope to get back there again this year and just stare at the sea (but this time we will bring wine). We saw lots of seals, and briefly saw a humpback whale on one of our walks. There will be a few more posts from this area. Thanks for reading Leighton. Allan
