Beach Blanket Benji

All photos were taken on January 28, 2022.

One of the things we knew would help out the kids was to take Benji the Wonder Dog for a walk. We knew one of his favourite places to walk was on the beach along English Bay. No arguments there.

Not much to tell. After working for 3 companies over 43+ years (38 years 7 months with my last company), I finally got that promotion I had waited my entire career for……retirement. I have been exploring this new career for the past 7+ years and while it is not always exciting, the chance to do what I want for myself and my family instead of what my company wants has been very fulfilling. Early on, there was a long list of projects in my “to-do” hopper and I attacked these projects with a vengeance for the first 9 months of retirement. Eventually, my brain told me that this was not what retirement was about, so it took me another 5 months before my industriousness again took over and I attacked another line of projects, this time somewhat shorter and less complicated, as well as many new projects related to the family weddings in 2016. After going hard for 6 weeks and 3 weddings, my body was telling me to relax, then the flu bug hit and as soon as that was done with me, my sciatic acted up. No rest for the wicked. In 2020 and 2021, the Covid 19 pandemic changed the whole retirement gig. I was lucky to not be still working, for sure. I enjoy photography, gardening, working with my hands, walking, cycling, skiing, travelling, reading and creating special photo and video productions obtained in my first pastime. I may never become wealthy in any of these pursuits, but I already feel I am rich in life experiences far beyond any expectation.

  1. Benji really is a gorgeous dog Allan. Those eyes… I grew up with Britannys, so know only too well how intense the excitement levels are when doggie realises he’s about to be treated to a favourite walk. I can’t say I exactly ‘miss’ being pulled around all over the place, but it’s all part of the charm I guess.

    1. He is and those eyes will melt your heart. He for sure knew where we were headed. I have learned not to let him pull me up onto rock or log piles. My usually sure footing seems to have lost a step in recent years. Thanks for reading Leighton. Allan

  2. Ah that beach. So familiar. Hasn’t changed in the 4 decades since I lived there. Assume he must stay on leash so good that you let him run😉. Dogs have so much energy! Way more than us 60+. Bernie

    1. The only change is the barge and that is hopefully temporary. Benji stays on a leash when we walk him. There are dog parks around, but we tend not to take him there. Yeah, I thought I had energy until I started to run. 😊Thanks for reading Bernie. Allan

    1. Oh yeah, Benji the Wonder Dog is back. There will be a few more posts to come. He loves the beach, knows where every dog park is where he can be off leash and knows where home is. You would not think an 8 pound dog could be so strong. Thanks for reading Lyssy. Allan

      1. Reminds me of a time my sisters and I walked our dog up to a house at the top of the neighborhood to see our friend and we went inside for a few minutes and during that time our dog walked home by herself. Needless to say my mom wasn’t very happy with us 😂
