After recent rains, we again opted to head East on our rural routes, hoping for a better experience that that of our ride which I posted on my Climate Change is Real post.

Not much to tell. After working for 3 companies over 43+ years (38 years 7 months with my last company), I finally got that promotion I had waited my entire career for……retirement. I have been exploring this new career for the past 7+ years and while it is not always exciting, the chance to do what I want for myself and my family instead of what my company wants has been very fulfilling. Early on, there was a long list of projects in my “to-do” hopper and I attacked these projects with a vengeance for the first 9 months of retirement. Eventually, my brain told me that this was not what retirement was about, so it took me another 5 months before my industriousness again took over and I attacked another line of projects, this time somewhat shorter and less complicated, as well as many new projects related to the family weddings in 2016. After going hard for 6 weeks and 3 weddings, my body was telling me to relax, then the flu bug hit and as soon as that was done with me, my sciatic acted up. No rest for the wicked. In 2020 and 2021, the Covid 19 pandemic changed the whole retirement gig. I was lucky to not be still working, for sure. I enjoy photography, gardening, working with my hands, walking, cycling, skiing, travelling, reading and creating special photo and video productions obtained in my first pastime. I may never become wealthy in any of these pursuits, but I already feel I am rich in life experiences far beyond any expectation. View more posts

What a delicious shade of green in those fields. A seemingly perfect blue sky too, by the looks of it. Not sure I’ve ever seen a red-winged blackbird before, such a welcome splash of colour.

The farm land looks so lush when all is going right with the weather and our sunny skies are welcome all year long. Our provincial motto is Sunny Alberta. The red-winged blackbirds are still thick as thieves, but I really missed the yellow-headed blackbirds this year. Either they go lost on their way back or avian flu played a part. Such a beautiful countryside to cycle through, Allan 🙂 It’s amazing to think that the humble bicycle has been used by the human population for nearly two centuries and in the technological age of the 21st century, it is certainly not being left behind, especially now with petrol prices going through the roof! I still enjoy road biking for a variety of reasons including fitness building, outdoor adventure, and social bonding. Thanks for sharing and have a good day 🙂 Aiva xx

We are so lucky to live on the edge of farmland and to still be able to ride a bicycle. With these new bikes, a little charge gets us a long way. Thanks for reading Aiva. Allan

Looks like the perfect route for an e-bike ride! Those horses and cows look pretty happy. Although in the standoff picture they look ready to fight ha!

Thanks Lyssy. It was a mush better ride than our first out that way. Strangely enough, cows will attack humans, when they’ve a mind to. In the UK, between 2015 and 2020, there were 142 incidents of cows attacking hikers and walkers, with 22 of them resulting in death…for the human. Don’t trust those big brown eyes, I guess.
