…entered William Hawrelak Park to ride around the circuit. It was a quiet day, with only a few other cyclists, joggers and walkers out and about.

Not much to tell. After working for 3 companies over 43+ years (38 years 7 months with my last company), I finally got that promotion I had waited my entire career for……retirement. I have been exploring this new career for the past 7+ years and while it is not always exciting, the chance to do what I want for myself and my family instead of what my company wants has been very fulfilling. Early on, there was a long list of projects in my “to-do” hopper and I attacked these projects with a vengeance for the first 9 months of retirement. Eventually, my brain told me that this was not what retirement was about, so it took me another 5 months before my industriousness again took over and I attacked another line of projects, this time somewhat shorter and less complicated, as well as many new projects related to the family weddings in 2016. After going hard for 6 weeks and 3 weddings, my body was telling me to relax, then the flu bug hit and as soon as that was done with me, my sciatic acted up. No rest for the wicked. In 2020 and 2021, the Covid 19 pandemic changed the whole retirement gig. I was lucky to not be still working, for sure. I enjoy photography, gardening, working with my hands, walking, cycling, skiing, travelling, reading and creating special photo and video productions obtained in my first pastime. I may never become wealthy in any of these pursuits, but I already feel I am rich in life experiences far beyond any expectation.

    1. My son who lives in Vancouver would laugh if he heard Edmonton referred to as bike friendly. Vancouver is so much further ahead, but we are getting there. Another $100,000,000 has been approved for bicycle infrastructure over the next 4 years. In the meantime, we enjoy every ride we get. Thanks for reading Aiva. Happy Monday. Allan

  1. Hooray for Mayor William Hawrelak. Do you know much about him? Was he an all-round good egg? Yet another gorgeous area Allan and one that clearly means a lot to you guys. The dog shots are magic. Our family dog, River, would have a field day there I’m sure. Though I must say, not so diligent about the old fetching 😉

    1. Funny story Leighton. Mayor Bill was removed from office the first time, due to corruption charges. I’d say his heart was in the right place, but perhaps he was a bit impulsive at times. We used to live within walking distance of the West side of the river before the footbridge went in. Would have been nice to have the bridge then. There are many dog parts adjacent to the river, sometimes causing an curious canine’s demise. I, for one, would not charge into the river. It is fairly clean but has a muddy bottom. Thanks for reading. Allan

  2. A — I swam in that “pond” doing a world masters triathlon and ran/biked some of those roads
B — what is that huge flower plant in that one picture
C — why will you miss this for 3 years? I am reading posts out of order so might have missed something. Bernie

    1. A – cool. I know they have to do a deep clean every time they hold a triathlon here. B – it is some kind of constructed flower basket. I have never seen anything like it before. I mean there are big hanging baskets for homes, but this one was absolutely huge C – upgrades and rehabilitation will take a long time and be safer with the park closed. Thanks for reading Bernie. Merry Christmas. Allan
