Our home for the next 6 nights in Ucluelet was to be Cabin #6 at the Terrace Beach Resort. As with a lot of prime vacation properties on the island, this resort seems to be run by a management company, which rents out owner’s cottages, when they are not in use. There are a variety of accommodation styles in the resort, but we were in the cottages. A row of similar 3 story units grouped into Port and Starboard sections.
Not much to tell. After working for 3 companies over 43+ years (38 years 7 months with my last company), I finally got that promotion I had waited my entire career for……retirement.
I have been exploring this new career for the past 7+ years and while it is not always exciting, the chance to do what I want for myself and my family instead of what my company wants has been very fulfilling. Early on, there was a long list of projects in my “to-do” hopper and I attacked these projects with a vengeance for the first 9 months of retirement. Eventually, my brain told me that this was not what retirement was about, so it took me another 5 months before my industriousness again took over and I attacked another line of projects, this time somewhat shorter and less complicated, as well as many new projects related to the family weddings in 2016. After going hard for 6 weeks and 3 weddings, my body was telling me to relax, then the flu bug hit and as soon as that was done with me, my sciatic acted up. No rest for the wicked. In 2020 and 2021, the Covid 19 pandemic changed the whole retirement gig. I was lucky to not be still working, for sure.
I enjoy photography, gardening, working with my hands, walking, cycling, skiing, travelling, reading and creating special photo and video productions obtained in my first pastime. I may never become wealthy in any of these pursuits, but I already feel I am rich in life experiences far beyond any expectation.

Those stairs look a little tricky after wine o’clock 🙂 Looks like a great place to stay, has everything you need.
Never mind wine o’clock. Try going up them to go to the bathroom after dark. And all that wood is so noisy, there was no tiptoeing around in that place. Thanks for reading Lyssy. Allan
What a lovely little cabin to stay at, Allan! In a hotel, you share walls and halls. You’ll hear elevator doors clunking, ice machines crunching, and room doors slamming. A cabin is your oasis, away from other folks’ noise. And if your family board game gets loud, or you want to crank up the volume on movie night, you can enjoy yourself without worrying about bothering other guests. Thanks for sharing and have a good day 🙂 Aiva xx
It was a good place to spend time with our son and daughter. We do not see them often but, when we do, it is quality time. The cabin was a great place to relax after our hikes, make popcorn and hot chocolate, play games and talk about the day. Thanks for reading Aiva. Allan
It looks like a really cosy and peaceful retreat, Allan. I agree, those stairs looks like they could trip you up if you’re not on your best game. I also had a good laugh at the bed, the cottage certainly has some quirks to it. Love all the wood though, and the surrounding greenery. The sunrise shot (and experience no doubt) is a winner too.
Even with all its quirks, it was a great home. Benji would not go up and down the steps on his own and had to be carried. A blessing and a curse. The bed was crazy high and must have been built by someone who was 6′-6″. Going up the stairs in the dark was an adventure. Thanks for reading and commenting. Allan
