Another post with no photos! I must have run out of film or enthusiasm. So, I will post a photo of our tour group in their honour and as a way of letting go of our Florence disappointment.
Paris to London – July 4, 1984
As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, we were travelling back to London in style. After our last? continental breakfast, we watched as our fellow travellers boarded the bus for Ostend.
Not much to tell. After working for 3 companies over 43+ years (38 years 7 months with my last company), I finally got that promotion I had waited my entire career for……retirement.
I have been exploring this new career for the past 7+ years and while it is not always exciting, the chance to do what I want for myself and my family instead of what my company wants has been very fulfilling. Early on, there was a long list of projects in my “to-do” hopper and I attacked these projects with a vengeance for the first 9 months of retirement. Eventually, my brain told me that this was not what retirement was about, so it took me another 5 months before my industriousness again took over and I attacked another line of projects, this time somewhat shorter and less complicated, as well as many new projects related to the family weddings in 2016. After going hard for 6 weeks and 3 weddings, my body was telling me to relax, then the flu bug hit and as soon as that was done with me, my sciatic acted up. No rest for the wicked. In 2020 and 2021, the Covid 19 pandemic changed the whole retirement gig. I was lucky to not be still working, for sure.
I enjoy photography, gardening, working with my hands, walking, cycling, skiing, travelling, reading and creating special photo and video productions obtained in my first pastime. I may never become wealthy in any of these pursuits, but I already feel I am rich in life experiences far beyond any expectation.

Real food on an airplane– it was a long time ago!!
Allan, we have reached the end of this grand series. I have really enjoyed every step, I’m such a sucker for nostalgia posts and looking into a time I recognise but was too young to truly remember. You flew home three days before my 6th birthday! Oh, and the answer to your Pepsi question is ‘never’. Absolute filth! 😉
Thanks for your generous praise Leighton. It was great having you along on this trip, especially as you have also seen many of the places we travelled to for the first time. OK, now you are just making me feel old. I will be getting even older this week. I do not recall why we ever drank pop (soda/squash). It was a strange time when there were even businesses here manufacturing cheap soda knockoffs by the case and we let our kids drink it. Now, I am neither a Coke nor Pepsi fan. Anything that eats the enamel off your teeth can’t be good for you. Once in a while I might have an icy cold A & W root beer. Thanks for reading. Happy Monday. Allan 👩🦲😁
I enjoyed following along on this trip! Aren’t you glad you can take unlimited pictures nowadays and don’t have to worry about the hassle of developing it!
Thanks for coming along Lyssy. It was a great trip despite the tour operator. Taking photos in those days was kind of like Christmas. You had to wait until the film was developed to see what you have captured. I am happy with digital, but still have to check from time to time. There have been times I forgot to make sure the SD card was clicked in and still others where I was shooting in the wrong mode. I am learning to check and take nothing for granted. Cheers. Allan
Wow, what an amazing trip to remember in years to come, I very much enjoyed every bit of it! I could literally feel your enthusiasm about the cooked breakfast, Allan! Thanks for sharing and have a good day 🙂 Aiva xx
Thanks Aiva. Glad you enjoyed my tale. There are times on a journey when I like baked goods and coffee for breakfast, but after a while you just want something different. Thanks for coming along and have a great week. Allan

Agreed. Wardair was the class of the time and a business model could not survive, as everybody wanted lower costs. Thanks for reading Bernie. Allan
